Formation of Liesegang Patterns: A Spinodal Decomposition Scenario
نویسندگان
چکیده
Spinodal decomposition in the presence of a moving particle source is proposed as a mechanism for the formation of Liesegang bands. This mechanism yields a sequence of band positions xn that obeys the spacing law xn Q 1 1 p n. The dependence of the parameters p and Q on the initial concentration of the reagents is determined and we find that the functional form of p is in agreement with the experimentally observed Matalon-Packter law.

Formation of Poly(vinylidene fluoride) Nanofibers Part II: the elaboration of incompatibility in the electrospinning of its solutions
Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) fibers with two molecular weights were prepared via electrospinning process. In this process, the concentration of spinning depended drastically on the gelation process. Also, it was experimentally smaller than obtained concentration in the solution entanglement number approach (SENA). Proof of this incompatibility was explained by the properties of PVDF a...
متن کاملCoherent structures in reaction-diffusion models for precipitation1
We study a class of models for precipitation from a dynamical systems point of view. The class of models incorporates Cahn-Hilliard-type models for spinodal decomposition and supersaturation theories as natural limiting cases. We analyze existence and stability of coherent structures, and relate our findings to simulations of Liesegang pattern formation.
متن کاملGuiding fields for phase separation: controlling Liesegang patterns.
Liesegang patterns emerge from precipitation processes and may be used to build bulk structures at submicrometer length scales. Thus they have significant potential for technological applications provided adequate methods of control can be devised. Here we describe a simple, physically realizable pattern control based on the notion of driven precipitation, meaning that the phase separation is g...
متن کاملFormation of metastable phases by spinodal decomposition
Metastable phases may be spontaneously formed from other metastable phases through nucleation. Here we demonstrate the spontaneous formation of a metastable phase from an unstable equilibrium by spinodal decomposition, which leads to a transient coexistence of stable and metastable phases. This phenomenon is generic within the recently introduced scenario of the landscape-inversion phase transi...

The non-equilibrium self-consistent generalized Langevin equation theory of irreversible relaxation [P. E. Ramŕez-González and M. Medina-Noyola, Phys. Rev. E 82, 061503 (2010); 82, 061504 (2010)] is applied to the description of the non-equilibrium processes involved in the spinodal decomposition of suddenly and deeply quenched simple liquids. For model liquids with hard-sphere plus attractive ...
